30 Minute Backlinks – Software Submissions

30 Minute Backlinks” is a Video tutorial series that teaches you how to create free software and how to use brandable software in order to submit to 1,000’s and 1,000’s of software directories.

The concept has been around for quite some time; it’s just always been one of those industry secrets. Actually, there really is no secret to this program, however if you have never heard of the websites that you can use to create software, convert it, and submit it to a ton of directories then it’s secret to you.

Let me explain in more detail what 30 Minute Backlinks is all about.

Michelle MacPhearson created approximately 9 videos that walk you step by step through a variety of sites that allow you to create software. The videos also walk you step by step through the process of bulk submitting that software all over the web.

She pretty much starts off with an introduction to what you will be learning.

First you’ll learn which sites on the internet allow you to create software so you can promote for your company for free; thumbnail, zip, .exe, snapshots etc.

She also teaches you other ways to find some particular brandable software that you can use to promote your company. We also learn ways to turn other types of files into .exe’s to promote in software directories. Yes, you can write an eBook, convert it to an executable file and upload to all the software directories. Even sites such as download.com.

After that, she shows you how to upload your software to your server and how to make it accessible to all the software directories on the net.

The next step is one of the most important and most informative steps ever. This video is 36 Minutes and 20 seconds. She shows you how to convert files from .exe’s to simple announcement files that all the software directories on the net can read. This file contains variables like size of software (kb, mb), what version is it (2.1, 1.0, Beta); type (freeware/shareware), what operating systems is it compatible with (MAC OS, Xp/Vista) and so on.

Once you create this file. You’ll upload it to the world-wide web’s software library. Then you will submit it to all the free software directories on the net.

All the directories are always competing to have the most software available, so finding these sites are very easy. It’s actually so easy; sometimes software directories will extract software from other directories and use them for their site.

But it gets better; this is what makes the process so great. Earlier in the series when she teaches you how to create the software, you learned how to name it in ways so when these directories list your software, they link to you with the anchor text of your choice. Example for a friend’s dirt bike stunt site; Dirt Bike Engine 2.1 created by Stunt DVD Productions. You can literally name the software that you authored and company whatever you want. And the directories are forced to use those terms if they list your software. That’s just 1 of many SEO tips you learn throughout this series.

I left out much information, for it would be unfair to the people who purchased this program and to Michelle who obviously worked hard on this. But, here is a tiny portion of what you get when purchasing 30Minute Backlinks.

30 Minute Backlinks - SEO Members Area

All in all, I recommend this because Michelle took the time to walk me through the whole process of generating tons of backlinks and she has taught me something I can do Again and Again and Again. And, in literally 30 minutes or less.

Thanks Michelle!

Link Tunneling Explained – Link Building SEO

define:link tunneling

Get links from all the sites linking to your competitors and from all the sites linking to the sites linking to your competitors. Then if you can’t get links from your top competitors, seek to get links from all the sites your competitors are linking to … Link Tunneling.

Here is the JameSEO way of describing link tunneling

The main point I’m trying to make is, if you can’t get links from the big boyz in your industry, try to get links from the sites they are linking to. SEO Chat has a great tool called the Site Link Analyzer. Use this tool to see who your competitors link to. You’ll be surprised how easy it is to get one from those sites.

Google Webmaster Guidelines and Link Building Pt.5

Link Building

Part 5 of 5 – Google Webmaster Guidelings & Link Building

This is the final part of my link building strategies that follow the Google’s Webmaster Guidelines.

Bullet 5 in the Google Webmaster Guidelines states “submit your site to directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as other industry-specific expert sites.”

So Google states submit you site to directories “such as” ; meaning DMOZ & Yahoo! are just examples.

But you have to think, why would they suggest those two? Maybe they skim through those directories to help determine rankings. Since Google mentioned these directories, I will start off with them 1st.

Peter Kent said in Search Engine Optimization for Dummies

“One way the search engines are probably trying to do this sort of thing is by using the Open Directory Project directory to provide some context. Because web sites listed in the directory have been put into categories, it gives the search engines a starting point to figure out what keywords and sites relate to what categories.”

Then I will search for directories relating to my keyword in other directories within DMOZ & the Yahoo! Directory and add my links to them.

  • Once you found your directory…

  • Category – Make sure it’s in the perfect section or on the perfect page.

  • Title – Keyword rich, similar to your website title.

  • Description -Similar to site description & content on page. But unique from other listings.

  • url – make sure page is placed on a permanent url page, not a dynamic or flash page.

Next I want to find good directories that will help me obtain links Google will recognize and find relevant to my site.

Search terms like

  • “weddings” “directory” or marriage directories

  • Link:www.competitorsite.com “directory”

  • Intitle:guitar “directory”

Just remember when submitting a site, make sure your title compliments your title tag, your descriptions compliments your website description and theme, and that your keywords compliment your meta tags.

Remember to think alpha numeric order. If the listings are listed in alphabetical order, you might want to consider creating a title that will show up higher on the page than your competitors.

Also, make your listing keyword rich but at the same time, make it attractive so that listing can have a good click through rate.

This concludes my 5 pt series on Google Webmaster Guidelines & Link Building

Google Webmaster Guidelines and Link Building Pt.4

Web 2.0 Linking - JameSEO Napki

PART 4 of 5: Google Webmaster Guidelines – Web 2.0 Link Building

The 4th bullet in the Webmaster Guidelines states “Make sure all the sites that should know about your pages are aware your site is online”

This part is a fun one. Google actually tells us to promote our site.

So this part is dedicated to letting everyone in relevant communities know about your website. The Fun part of SEO.

You can use these strategies on thousands of sites and be as creative as you can. The more creative and unique you are, the better. Don’t go overboard though, you still need to be relevant to your targeted keyword phrases.

TIP 1: Create a keyword-rich profile in Digg.com, Flickr.com & StumbleUpon.

For this post, I will use Digg.com, StumbleUpon.com & Flickr.

When I say keyword rich, I mean, somehow put your targeted keywords in your profile and in your profile url (if possible). This way, your permalink page within the site has the keyword in the url and hopefully in the title or <hx> tags as well.

Here are some good web 2.0 tips to follow.

  • When creating your profile, if asked to add a website, add yours.

  • In the about me section, create content unique to that Web 2.0 site and relevant to your website.

  • If possible, apply attributes i.e. bold or italic to your targeted keywords.

  • Next, add a link to your site from your profile page (the page with the keyword in the permalink)

  • In your profile, try to put that link within content relevant to your website.

  • Search for your targeted keyword within the site. then…

  • Add all friends/contacts that are ranking high for that term. then…

  • Comment their post/picture that’s most relevant to your targeted keyword with a relevant link pointing back to your website or a particular profile page. Make sure they are aware your site is online

  • Now find the groups most relevant to your keywords and join them.

  • If those groups allow comments, post a relevant comment within the group with a relevant link pointing back to your site.

When searching a Web 2.0 site, it’s easy to see who is most relevant to your targeted keyword and why, so join them, imitate them and then do a lot more than them.

NOTE: When uploading a picture, stumbling’ or digging’ a site, make sure when you add tags, that the tags are your keywords in your websit’s metas and are ALSO some of the most popular tags within that web 2.0 site relevant to your site.

TIP 2: Forum posting

This is probably one of the oldest and most played out strategies on informing other sites about yours. Probably because it’s something Google says we should do.

What we do here is find forums related to our field and participate.

A good way to find forums related to your field is to go to Google and search “graphic design forums” or computer forums.

Once we have found forums to post comments in, keep these tips in mind.

  • Don’t spam or be spammy. A lot of forums have moderators that filter out sites. So to have a lasting link, don’t spam.

  • If possible, within your forum profile, link to your website

  • Also, add a keyword-rich anchor text link to your signature, so that every time you comment in a forum, you create a link to your webpage.

  • Make sure that when answering a question or starting a thread, your post is obviously trying to contribute to the site and not just trying to draw traffic to your site. This is possible while at the same time making sure people are aware of your site. You just have to be creative.

  • This is also your chance to make sure all content surrounding your link is of choice ;-)

  • Something interesting…

TIP 3: Blogging comments

This is also one of my old school favorites. In this tip, we find blogspots relevant to our keyword and leave keyword-rich text links in those blogs pointing back to our site. Once again, this is just another way to make sure others are aware that our site is online.

Steps to Blogspot Commenting.

  1. First, we will search for the best blogs to comment in by searching terms like “graphic design blogs” in Google search.

  2. Identify a blogspot to comment in.

  3. Find that perfect blog to comment on.

  4. Make sure the blogger is aware your site is online by commenting one of his/her blogs with a link (with keyword in anchor text) pointing back to your site or profile.

  5. Keep in mind, the owner will screen your comment first, so make sure it’s a comment the webmaster and visitors would like. And one that the webmaster wont delete.

NOTE: Sometimes you will be asked to be signed in to blogger.com. If you are a member of any Google account, you will be able to post a comment. Unless the moderator has selected the option to only allow Blogspot bloggers to comment. In that case, you just need to create a blog at http://www.blogger.com.

TIP4: Classifieds. A short-term link that’s free and informative.

Another way to make sure others are aware of your site is to post classifieds in local directories. If your company is in Seattle, you may want to find classifieds in Seattle  and post attention getting information about your site within those local classifieds. Theirs thousands of classifieds to submit a post/ad to…

  • Search terms like Seattle classifieds or “graphic design” “classifieds”

  • Or search for global classifieds using terms like “classifieds”, computer classifieds or classifieds “submit”

Remember, most classified links expire, so all traffic you get, you may only get once. (Unless your site gives that visitor a reason to return) This is just another way to may sure others are aware of your site.

Since Google’s next step is submitting to directories, check and see if any of the classified sites have a directory or links page.

TIP5: TAGS – Visit BlogOptimizer.Blogspot.com to learn the importance of tags

Well, this finishes off Google’s 4th bullet “Make sure all the sites that should know about your pages are aware your site in online.”

Just remember one thing; if you have a legit relevant site that people in your field will enjoy then it’s only right that you let all of them know you are there for them. Right???

Google Webmaster Guidelines and Link Building Pt.3

PART 3 of 5 – Submitting your Sitemap in Google’s Webmaster Tools

Step 3 is a doozy.

Google saysSubmit a sitemap as part of our Google Webmaster tools. Google uses your sitemap to learn about the structure of your site and to increase our coverage of your WebPages”

Google is about theme. Even though your site may have your targeted keyword various times and in various formats, Google wants to see that the whole website’s theme is relevant to the keyword also.

So, creating a site map is a must. (If you site has a theme)

There are many ways to create a sitemap. For a full tutorial on creating one, visit sitemaps.org or Google’s sitemap page. Or you could go to XML Sitemaps and they will generate ones for you, for free.

Sitemap - Google Webmaster Tools

Once you have created your sitemap, you will submit it to Google Webmaster Tools. Google may ask you to verify that you are the site owner (or someone that can edit the site) before you can benefit from all the features of Google’s Webmaster Tools.

Once you have submitted your sitemap to Google’s Webmaster Tools, Google will verify that you have submitted your sitemap.

Keep in mind; this doesn’t automatically get all your pages indexed in Google. You have to get an indexed page to link to your pages for them to be indexed. Submitting your sitemap just makes it easier for the Googlebot to crawl your whole site.

PS: Internal link popularity, link tunneling & site architecture &  are keys to making the best of SEO & sitemaps.

Google Webmaster Guidelines and Link Building Pt.2

Part 2 of 5 – Submit Your Site to Google.

Ok, we now have all the sites that are relevant to ours linking to us. Next, Google says “Submit it to Google at http://www.google.com/addurl.html

I know a lot of SEO “experts” that say DON’T do this and I am not knocking these “experts”. But some of those experts say don’t do this because you may be drawing the wrong kind of attention to your site, but if your site is legit and relevant to your theme then how could you be attracting the “wrong kind attention”.

Google makes it pretty clear and states it right there in their Webmaster Guidelines to add your url,

so we will…

You may feel like you don’t need to do this because Google already recognizes your site and it’s already indexed, but Google has a form for you to fill out. What they do with this form beats me.

Just some crazy thoughts…

What if all Google does with this form is check to see if the links they have indexed pointing to you is relevant to your website’s theme? Or what if when submitting your site, you triggered the Googlebot to examine all the sites pointing to you? Or, what if when submitting your site, Google places you within one of their hidden algorithms and starts some unknown hidden site submission crawl cycle?

I know this last paragraph sounds like hocus-pocus, but isn’t a lot of SEO & Google’s algorithm “unknown” or “magical”? So, who knows?

One thing I know for sure is that Google says submit your site to them. And, it can’t hurt if you listen to them.

All Google asks for is a url and comment… oh, & proof that you’re human

Google Webmaster Guidelines and Link Building Pt.1

Key to Link BuildingWhen Reading the Google Webmaster Guidelines (which is my SEO bible), Google gives you 5 specific steps for getting Google to index your website.

So, I am creating a 5 part series called; Google Webmaster Guidelines & Link Building. So let’s get started on Part 1 - 4 ways to find relevant sites to get links from.

Google’s 1st bullet under “When your site is ready” states “Have other relevant sites link to yours.”

Fair enough… so let’s get some links from some other sites relevant to ours.

*NOTE – These strategies are made for sites actually relevant to the key terms targeting.

TIP 1: Searching using query; link:http://www.competitorsite.com (link:http://www.guitartricks.com)

link-guitar-tricks

For this Post, I will pretend I am FreeGuitarLessons.ws & that I am trying to rank #1 for the keyword phrase; “guitar lessons”.

Do this in both Google & Yahoo. Each search engine will show you the links that they recognize and find relevant in their own algorithmic order.

Seek to get links on the same pages as the competition

  • Try to get better placement

  • Make sure your targeted keywords are in the anchor text.

  • Look to see if links are in Alpha-Numeric order (for higher placement)

LINK BUILDING TOOL: SEOChat.com has a tool called the PageRank Search. This tool gives you search results with a website’s Page Rank.

link-pagerank-search

When using this tool;

  1. Type keyword into search bar.

  2. Identify competition & note their PR scores.

  3. Type link:www.competitorsite.com in search bar.

  4. Get links from those sites

TIP 2: Search in Google using this query; related:http://www.yourwebsite.com (related:www.freeguitarlessons.ws) and see what sites that Google says you’re related to. Once you find what sites Google says you are related to, make links pointing to your site from those web pages.

related-link-building

Now, search related:http://www.competitorsite.com (related:www.guitartricks.com) and see who Google thinks they relate to. If that site is ranking high on Google, you might want to be in the same area as them. Seek to get links from all sites that Google thinks relates to your competition. After all, you do feel you deserve top placement just as much as your competitors, right?

LINK BUILDING EXPERT

This tool allows typing in up to 10 urls of your top competitors and seeing which links they all have in common. Once again, if you want to rank higher than your competitors, you must be more relevant than them, so other sites WILL want to link to your site as well, Right?

  1. Type in the urls of the top competitors ranking on the 1st page of Google for your targeted key terms into the Common Backlink Tool.

  2. Go à and the tool will show you all the common back links that each of your competitors share.

  3. Work your magic…

TIP 3: Search using these queries; “keyword” “add a link” or “keyword phrase” “submit site” or “key term” “submit url”, etc.

i.e. “guitar lessons” “add url” or “guitar sites” “suggest a link”

add-url-guitar-lessons

Here is a list of phrases you could search with your keyword in the “ “ format to find relevant sites that allow you to “add a link”

  • Add link, add a link, add site, add a site, add website, add a website, add url, add a url

  • Suggest link, suggest a link, suggest site, suggest a site, suggest website, suggest a website, suggest url, suggest a url

  • Submit link, submit a link, submit site, submit a site, submit website, submit a website, submit url, submit a url

These are a variety of ways to find pages relating to your keywords that allows you to add links or suggest a site. This is a good shortcut instead of having to search through a site to see if they except links. Most of the time, the search engine listings point directly to the pages that makes submitting a site effortless.

  • You can also search for more terms like site:competitorsite.com “add” or site:http://www.competitors.com “links”, etc.

TIP 4: Last is search with intitle:guitar lessons or “add url” intitle:guitar lessons

intitle-guitar-lessons

This will show you the pages most relevant to the phrase “guitar lessons” with “guitar lessons” in the <title> tag.

  1. Identify top sites and seek to get links from the same sites as them using these previous steps.

  2. Or Google site:www.toprankingsite.com “add” to see if there is place somewhere on their site where you could add a link.

  3. Work your magic…

These are what I found to be some of the easiest and the most efficient ways to build links that are relevant to your site.

Keep in mind; Google states “have other relevant sites links to yours” so if you want to rank #1 for your targeted term, just make sure you are relevant to it.

This blog was dedicated to my buddy T-Bone.
