As for giving keywords bold, italics and so on, I have never done this and the only benifit I could see from it would be showing the user how your site is laid out and that it's relevant to your page, Google will highlight all the words it's self in the index (if you view the cache of your page for a given term) although I as I say I havent used it, so I best not to take my word on weather its worth doing or not!
