Fortunately you're in luck. When generating quality scores the Adwords algorithm weights the earlier history more heavily. Since you've progressively optimized the account it should not hold those long gone mistakes against you.

I think you're screwed if you made the adwords account on the same email as your adsense account.
You can't delete the whole account and can't get rid of the so called "critical" notifications.

Great article. Thank you! So, if I have a bunch of bad “historical data” and need a fresh start, should I just start a new campaign and point it to the same domain, or do I have to get a new domain name? In other words, does the “historical data” attach keywords to the domain, or do they start fresh with a new account?

I have been using Adwords for the last 2 years and i can only say that it increased my online sales by about 20%. The pay per click cost of Adwords is even cheaper than Adbrite. I love Adwords.

Hey, You’ve just saved me a bunch of time. Thank you. I must say, it is rather annoying when working in Adwords Editor as it ALWAYS shows deleted or paused campaigns on the left side and I cannot help but feel that the terrible performance I’m experiencing is due to all this ‘historic data’.

My question is whether this historical data hurts current/future campaigns …. whether those really low CTRs from when I started learning AdWords are harming me now.
