My 10 Most Popular Blog Posts
While dissecting my blog, analyzing the stats of individual posts and prioritizing my pages, I was able to come up with my most popular posts based on a variety of factors ranging from total inlinks, comments, retweets, search engine rankings, PR and more.
So for my new followers who don’t know my SEO blog, here is a list of my 10 most popular blog posts.

Recently I decided to blog more about SEO related topics. Mainly because I have a couple keywords I want to start targeting. I noticed one of my blogs (My San Diego SEO Blog) (<— not this SEO Blog) was getting traffic for terms relating to ‘SEO‘ and ‘San Diego‘. I’m pretty sure the love I’m getting from the engines come from my relevant link right here in my blog side bar because I never really had any San Diego content.
The title of the blog used to be
“SEO Competition – Blog 2.0 vs. The Website“
But now that I’m targeting the term San Diego SEO, I changed it to
“San Diego SEO, Blog SEO & Web 2.0 SEO“
Basically I gave the term I’m targeting prominence, plus I gave the keyword ‘SEO‘ more density. This blog is one of my fun blogs. I’m not really targeting any other terms. Normally, I wouldn’t recommend adding a keyword 3 times to the title tag (like I did with ‘SEO’). But like I said, it’s my fun blog.
I was getting traffic from Yahoo! & MSN, but NOT GOOGLE. As you can see in this snapshot I took (with the time & date) that my rankings for the term ‘san diego seo’ was horrible.
Before I made that title tag change on Thursday, August 7th 2008 Blog Optimizer was ranked #498 for the term ‘san diego seo‘
*Disclaimer – That Thursday night I wrote the post; Web 2.0 Tags + SEO = Search Engine Love
Now look at the change in ranking the next day.
The next day (Friday, August 8th 2008) BlogOptimizer was ranked #63 for the term ‘san diego seo‘
*Disclaimer #2 – Since that site is a blog, it has the ability to jump 400 spots AND fall 400 spots overnight (literally). If you search for San Diego SEO now, I’m willing to bet that BlogOptimizer is not #63 anymore. Blogs are very fluid in the SERP’s unless that blog has strong link strength.
In case you didn’t know how important titles were to websites, search a term in Google and see that 9 out of the top 10 sites have that targeted term in their the listing titles.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my SEO blog. I really do appreciate it. You can read another related post (found below) or subscribe here. Once again, thank you for visiting James’ SEO blog.

I recently read a blog post titled; Blogging and Your Career – Ten Reasons Why Blogging is Good for your Career on Blogger Buzz. This article made me realize that my blog could have multiply purposes. I’ve already explained in my most recent post my personal desire to rank #1 for my name, but here are 10 reasons why JameSEO.com could benefit James Harrison’s career.
1. “You have to get noticed to get promoted.” Creating some type of buzz or getting some type of recognition from co-workers could definitely help me get promoted to higher opportunities.
2. “You have to get noticed to get hired.” I have a good job with a great company. This doesn’t really apply to me… unless I get offered a great job with a great company.
3. “It really impresses people when you say “Oh, I’ve written about that, just google for XXX and I’m on the top page” or “Oh, just google my name.””
It really impresses people when I say “Oh, I’ve written about that, just google for “Freelance SEO San Diego” and I’m on the top page” or “Oh, just google James Harrison“
4. “No matter how great you are, your career depends on communicating. The way to get better at anything, including communication, is by practicing. Blogging is good practice.” I absolutely agree. I communicate everyday with co-workers & clients, so it’s probably best for me to continue blogging to stay on top of this new communication evolution.
5. “Bloggers are better-informed than non-bloggers. Knowing more is a career advantage.” I do have to admit, I am pretty up on what’s going on in this world compared to my colleagues that don’t blog.
6. “Knowing more also means you’re more likely to hear about interesting jobs coming open.” If I were to start looking for a job in this field, I do know exactly where to search.
7. “Networking is good for your career. Blogging is a good way to meet people.” I am positive I will make new friends and branch out to more people through this blog.
8. “If you’re an engineer, blogging puts you in intimate contact with a worse-is-better 80/20 success story. Understanding this mode of technology adoption can only help you.” I’m not 100% sure how this effects me, but I do work in the online media field, so acquiring fresh knowledge through blogging could be beneficial to me.
9. “If you’re in marketing, you’ll need to understand how its rules are changing as a result of the current whirlwind, which nobody does, but bloggers are at least somewhat less baffled.”
“Anybody on the street can be at a particular place at any given time and witness/record something and post it on the net before any national news/broadcasting station could get to the scene & report it…. realizing this allows us to understand why the advertising landscape is turning upside down”
10. “It’s a lot harder to fire someone who has a public voice, because it will be noticed.” Gotta love it!
Suddenly, this blog has more to offer than just ranking #1 for James Harrison.
