Essential Accounts for Online Marketers

I was in my Google Reader catching up on some blogs I follow and as one link led to another, the next thing I knew I was surfing a handful of internet marketing blogs I’ve never heard of, or seen before. So many good blogs and so many junk ones. From internet marketing and business to personal development and finance. Topics ranging from the iPad & the stock market to how to make money online and  how to do SEO.

But this post is about a particular post I found written (and taped recorded) by an  Australian internet marketer named James Schramko. Before I found this particular post I was already interested in this guy’s blog, hence me looking around and stumbling across “Essential Accounts for Internet Marketers“. Here is a video from the post. But the full read can be found at his blog.

James Harrison - San Diego SEO Expert

About

Hi, my name is James Harrison. I’m a freelance SEO consultant from San Diego, California. I have been practicing search engine marketing techniques & strategies for over 6 years now.

Practicing SEO & Online Marketing Since 2005

Back when eBay was first getting big, I found myself buying and selling products online. I was creating stores on eBay, drop-shipping products, buying products locally on Craigslist or swap meets to sell online and was also participating in Google’s AdSense program. I remember emails and websites telling me how rich I could get overnight. For 2 years straight, I was really obsessed with the possibility of making money online. Granted I made money, but not enough to retire.

Through the years, I have picked up on SEO, link building and shared content writing. I practiced everything I was learning from the experts on my personal sites and realized that SEO really works. At this time, having proper title tags, meta data and any kind of links was enough to achieve top rankings, but then Google started to get big and found better ways to deliver better search results. So then, there was a new algorithm to crack. This is when the fun really began. Over the next few years I went on to practice, study and perform SEO for various websites (some clients) in multiple industries, but still something was missing..

Working for the Top Online Marketing Agencies in San Diego

After a few years of eBay marketing and SEO freelancing, I decided to enhance my skills professionally. I worked for over three years at two of the top marketing agencies here in San Diego, California until I decided to pursue my unique dream..

Engine Ready – San Diego, CA

Engine Ready is by far one of the most professional and smart PPC companies in the country. Here I was able to work closely with (in my opinion) the best PPC marketer in the industry, Mike Poserini. To this day, I appreciate the bulk account uploading shortcuts and Excel tricks taught by Mike. But Mike isn’t the only AdWords pro. Everyone in the company was a Google AdWords professional. Engine Ready offered me real life experience managing 40K+ monthly budgets and creating analytical reports that has meant more to my development than I could have ever imagined. I appreciated everything Engine Ready has done for me and would recommend them to any major company or corporation looking for REAL PPC MANAGEMENT.

So now I have some real PPC management experience, a better outlook of SEO and a more professional perspective of internet marketing as a whole.

..Staying in the same building, but moving on up..

MEA Digital – San Diego, CA

MEA Digital was like a dream come true for anyone in the field of internet marketing. Talk about playing with the big boys. MEA Digital is one of those large size advertising agencies that markets websites via newpapers, prints, online, television and almost any other way you could image your product being publicized. With clients such as Callaway, Nickelodeon, Oakley, Mitsubishi just to name a few, I knew I was in for a treat/surprise. All of a sudden, the budgets I was managing were passing the $50k/60K mark and I was in meetings with designers, programmers and managers discussing strategies for these huge well known corporations. At MEA Digital, I was able to work 1st hand with the best SEO I’ve ever met in person; Jeff Carpenter. He’s one of those SEO speakers that other SEO experts listen to. Jeff pretty much taught me SEO tactics and techniques that only years and years of professional experience can teach you. I started out as a fulltime PPC specialist and was able to slowly merge myself into being a PPC & SEO specialist. I will also never forget my PPC manager Art Tomblin. His ability to make anything more efficient than before was unbelievable. He was by far my favorite manager of all time.

There are 2 (spoken) reasons why I created this blog:

  1. The main reason for this blog is to record all my SEO marketing notes. I compile a ton of information on the internet and learn a lot about search engine marketing and SEO everyday. There’s too much information out there to keep track of. Therefore I am creating a blog to record everything I want to remember.
  2. The other reason why I created this blog is to rank for my name, James Harrison. I want to show up on top of search engines if anyone ever Google’s “james harrison“. Call it an ego thing, if you will.

Back to Taking SEO and PPC Notes

I haven’t written a post in a long time. Recently I have been investing my time into other tasks that add money to my pockets. I can either spend a hour writing a post that may contribute to making the SEO & PPC industry more competitive or work on a client or affiliate that has been faithfully paying me a check every month, what would you choose?

However, my name is all over this blog so I feel I have no choice but to maintain this blog and at the same time, maintain my name’s reputation. Originally, this blog was created to rank #1 for ‘james harrison‘, serve as a place to post my SEO & internet marketing notes, and possibly learn from contributors visiting the site. I believe that the SEO world is ever-changing and expanding therefore there is something to learn everyday and if I want to be successful I must continue to learn. I may not be making money from this site in the short term however I believe the knowledge I acquire from teaching and sharing information will give me a competitive edge in the future.

So from now on, whatever notes I take throughout my days will be published here on my blog.

I’m still not sure how often I will post, so don’t get all excited. But I do learn a lot about SEO & other internet marketing tactics everyday, so you never know.

JameSEO.com: Ranking Number 1 for James Harrison

It’s always been a goal of mind to be ranked #1 for my name James Harrison. I remember some years back when people found out that they could “Google” a paticular person’s name and possibly find out information about them. I’ve been studying “SEO” for a few years now and been helping sites rank for many terms. But now its time to invest a little bit of my skill into myself.

JameSEO.com will rank number 1 for “James Harrison

Unfortunately, I have a VERY common name. If you Google “james harrison”, Google will return 3.05 Million results. I helped my friend; Ashley LaVelle rank #1 for her name within 2 weeks, but their are far less Ashley LaVelle’s in this world. If you Google her name, Google only returns 177,000 results.

After seeing that, I am totally prepared to take on the key term “james harrison
I’ve added in this sentence for SEO purposes: I played football in high school. You’ll get this if you Google James Harrison ;)
